A – The D type steering wheel can be found in multiple vehicles – from UTVs, to six-second, 200 mile per hour NHRA Top Dragsters. In fact, the first D shaped steering wheels were used exclusively in motorsports, mainly Formula One and other road-course racing. 

The reason for this improvement was to create a curved top that helped drivers improve instrument cluster viewing of gauges at high speeds. Further the flattened bottom provided additional legroom for the driver.
